Pressure from top Democrat leaders calling for the president to be removed from office increased on Thursday.

Pollical expert Jim Clark said that there’s essentially no time for the impeachment process before the president’s term is over.

“For the moment, the Senate is tied. I doubt if all the democrats would even vote to pursue this,” Clark said. “The house has to hold hearings. The house has to vote and then send it over to the Senate, and Mitch McConnell is not going to bring this up.”

Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy said she’s open to options after experiencing the security breach at the Capitol.

“There were some harrowing hours of being locked down and trying to find safety and security,” Murphy said. “I know that the conversations are ongoing right now and I am open to hearing how leadership thinks that we could progress.”

Following the riot on Capitol Hill, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Vice President Mike Pence to involve the 25th amendment to remove President Trump from office.

Rep. Murphy also said that given how long it took to impeach the president the first time, it doesn’t seem logistically possible to complete the process prior to January 20, 2021
