Seniors and low- to moderate-income community members in San Luis Obispo County can receive free tax assistance services from the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide of San Luis Obispo County in February.
Starting Monday, Feb. 1, community members -- even those who are not AARP members -- can book an appointment with AARP to get their taxes prepared, according to a spokesperson for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide.
AARP Tax-Aide will not hold in-person tax preparation sessions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, taxpayers will bring their tax documents to a Tax-Aide location, where they will be dropped off or scanned, according to the spokesperson.
The person's tax return will be prepared, and they will be notified when to pick up the tax return and their documents, after which it will be electronically filed. All sites except for the one in Paso Robles require taxpayers to schedule an appointment to drop-off or have their tax documents scanned.
Those who are interested can call 805-931-6308 to schedule a drop-off or scanning appointment at any of the seven AARP Tax-Aide preparation sites:
- Arroyo Grande - Grace Bible Church (100 Rodeo Drive, Arroyo Grande, CA 93420)
- Drop-off: Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment only
- Forms and instructions available outside of the south-side lobby Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Atascadero - St. William's Catholic Church, Parish Hall (6410 Santa Lucia Road, Atascadero, CA 93422)
- Drop-off: Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. by appointment only
- Forms and instructions available on drop-off days
- Grover Beach - Mechanics Bank (899 West Grand Avenue, Grover Beach, CA 93433)
- Drop-off: TBD
- Morro Bay - Church of Christ, lower level (1001 Las Tunas Street, Morro Bay, CA 93442)
- Scanning: Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by appointment only
- Forms and instructions available on drop-off days
- Paso Robles - Senior Center (270 Scott Street, Paso Robles, CA 93446)
- Drop-off: Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; no appointment required
- Forms and instructions available outside of the Senior Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- San Luis Obispo - Church of the Nazarene (3396 Johnson Avenue, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401)
- Drop-off: Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. by appointment only
- Forms and instructions available on drop-off days
- Nipomo - Nipomo Community Park, parking lot on Pomeroy Road north of Tefft Street
- Pick-up: Tuesday and Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. by appointment only
- Forms and instructions available during the appointment
Tax document drop-off or scanning services will begin on Feb. 15 and extend through early April, said the spokesperson.
It is strongly advised that taxpayers get a form and instruction packet in advance and prepare the required information prior to booking their drop-off appointment.
Taxpayers must wear masks and observe social distancing measures at the drop-off locations.
