Summer time is ‘crootin time for Eli Drinkwitz and his staff - Rock M Nation

It’s the dog days of summer, and we’re going to have to scrape to get these links posts up, y’all. Get ready for a heavy dose of tweets and recruiting (not that you mind about the latter, I’m sure).

This weekend wrapped up the first week of in-person visits since the COVID-19 pandemic gave the world a firm uppercut, somewhat marking the beginning of an era for a coaching staff that has done most of its recruiting work via the internet. Eric Blum talked about the transition and evaluated Drinkwitz’s work under unusual circumstances at the Columbia Tribune.

Later in the afternoon, tweets started publishing regarding the weekend visits. The first to tweet their excitement from the weekend was three-star running back Joseph Himon.

Rivals lists Curtis Luper as Himon’s main recruiter, and the Little Rock back has offers from Louisville, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Memphis.

Later in the day, Tulsa grad transfer Akayleb Evans also tweeted about his weekend in Columbia.

In case you need a refresher, Evans has Missouri in his top five schools along with Notre Dame, Texas, Texas Tech and Jackson. Missouri has an inside man — secondary coach Aaron Fletcher — that could help with Evans, but it’ll tough to beat out a perennial CFP contender... in Notre Dame, that is. Do people consider Texas a contender anymore?

Not to be missed in the 2022 class, Drinkwitz and staff also extended an offer to 2022 CB Ahmad Robinson out of East St. Louis.

For all the anxiety worked up over Mizzou and St. Louis, ESL has been a nice recruiting ground for the university for years. Would be nice to see it continue.

Finally, Drinkwitz and the staff extended an offer to [squints] Class of 2024 (is that a real year?) linebacker Melvin Laster II out of Liberty, Mo.

As Laster points out, Missouri is his first D1 offer, which is always important with in-state recruits. Let’s hope it works out well for everyone and that Laster becomes a household name in five or six years.

  • Some swimming notes for you this fine Monday morning: First off, #MizzouMade Micah Slaton is heading into Wave 2 of the US Swim Trials with some momentum after winning the men’s 100 fly in Wave 1. He’ll have a chance to clinch an Olympic spot starting one week from today.
  • No former Tigers active in the NBA last night, but Michael Porter Jr. will be in action tonight as the Denver Nuggets take on the Phoenix Suns. In previewing the series, Arizona Sports called MPJ the “X-factor” noting Porter’s incredible numbers after Jamal Murray went down for the season with an injury.
