The daily average of COVID-19 deaths and cases in Massachusetts continues trending in a positive direction amid the vaccine rollout, as the state keeps reporting record low averages for virus deaths and infections.
After Sunday’s report of four more virus deaths and 126 new cases, the seven-day average of confirmed deaths is four and the seven-day average of confirmed cases is 115. Both are the lowest ever for the pandemic.
Also, the seven-day average of percent positivity for virus testing has dropped to 0.53%, which is also a record low.
More than 8 million total vaccine doses have been administered, and more than 3.8 million people are fully vaccinated, according to the daily vaccine report on Sunday.
Overall, the more than 8 million total doses administered breaks down to: more than 4.2 million people who have received one dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine; more than 3.5 million people who have received both doses of Pfizer or Moderna; and 257,288 people who have received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Those figures represent a daily increase of 34,665. The daily pace of the vaccine rollout has been slowing, as the state inches toward its goal of 4.1 million fully vaccinated people this month.
After the tally of 126 new virus cases, the state’s count of estimated active COVID-19 cases has now plunged to 4,335 cases, a significant decline from 36,775 cases last month.
The four new virus deaths bring the state’s total recorded death toll to 17,911.
Statewide hospitalizations have also been dropping during the vaccine rollout. Hospitalizations on Sunday ticked down by three patients, bringing the total to 178 patients. The last time the total was this low was September.
There are 64 patients in the intensive care unit, and 31 patients are intubated.
