Tom Brady appears to have the last laugh over Drew Brees in their career matchups.
Brady’s Buccaneers defeated Brees’s Saints 30-20 on Sunday night. With the Saints knocked out of the playoffs, it looks like Brees’s football career is over as Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported that the longtime quarterback will retire after this season.
While Brady may have sent Brees into retirement, there is no bad blood between the longtime competitors. Over an hour after Sunday’s game ended, Brady and Brees met back on the field at the Superdome, this time wearing street clothes instead of their jerseys. The two talked for several minutes on the field, according to NFL Network’s James Palmer.
Before Brady and Brees parted ways, Brady took time to throw a touchdown pass to one of Brees’s boys.

“I think so much of him as a player, person, everything,” Brady told Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews after Sunday’s game. “I know him pretty well and he’s an incredible player and competition.”

Sunday’s game was the eighth time Brady and Brees have face each other in their NFL careers, with Brees winning five of them. While the two first played each other in the NFL in 2002, their history on the field goes longer than that. In their college days, Brady led Michigan to a win over Brees’s Purdue team in 1999.
Brees didn’t confirm the report of him retiring following Sunday’s game, but did say he’ll take some time to think about his future.
“I’m gonna give myself an opportunity to think about the season, think about a lot of things, just like I did last year and make a decision,” Brees said.
