Make the most of your time; call ahead - WSIL TV

MARION (WSIL) -- COVID-19 has killed the dine-in option for many restaurants, so you may have noticed longer lines in the drive through, or longer wait times for takeout. The Marion Chamber of Commerce wants you to know a couple of tricks that may save you some time, the next time you need a quick bite to eat.

"Park safely, browse safely, have those favorite restaurants on speed dial, and give them a call. Just be like, 'Hey I'd like to do a carry out order, what are you guys doing today?' and see what their wait time is."

Karen Mullins, the Executive Director of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, says communication is key, especially with locally owned businesses.

In fact, it may save you more than just time on your lunch break.

"It makes sense to call and that way you come in and you get out really fast and you're not in a lot of contact with people that are standing around waiting for their food," says Mackie's manager, John McPeek.

Whether it's drive through, or takeout, Mullins says planning can all around lessen your frustration.

"You know to kind of look at planning your meal the same as you would if you cooked at home all the time. But, be like 'Okay we know we're going to eat out a few times this week, where are those places going to be?'"

In case everyone has the same idea as you, she says it's a good idea to have a backup plan.

"And have one or two options, so if one is really slammed at peak meal time, you have an alternate."

The Chamber of Commerce says you can usually save time by calling ahead, or taking advantage of tools like mobile apps, to place your order before you leave.
