HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On the heels of drenching rains, HNN’s weather team is alerting residents of more unstable weather in the week ahead.

HNN’s weather team has declared a First Alert Weather Day for Kauai on Tuesday night.

The rest of the state is expected to be under a First Alert Weather Day on Wednesday into Thursday, with the peak of the event expected to drop record rainfall totals.

The state is also under a flood watch through Friday.

First Alert Forecast: Flood Watch posted statewide, heavy rain possible through Friday

The National Weather Service warns that “significant flooding” could occur.

“A kona low developing north of the state will bring the potential for heavy rain and thunderstorms over portions of the state from Wednesday through Friday and possibly continuing through the weekend,” National Weather Service forecasters said.

Forecasters say the already saturated ground is a big concern. Even relatively moderate rain showers are producing flash flooding, making roads unsafe and threatening property.

LIST: Flooding rains close thoroughfares, snarl commute on Oahu

As in past seasons, kona lows are tricky to forecast and have lots of uncertainty accompanying them in regards to where exactly the most unstable ingredients will fall along the islands.

Currently, models suggest, Kauai, Oahu and parts of Maui County as well as Hawaii Island could see the most severe weather but the HNN will continue to monitor conditions and update forecasts.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
