Mississippi town running low on water, struggles to meet demand - Clarion Ledger

With a name like like Crystal Springs, you'd think the town would have plenty of water, but this small Mississippi town is barely keeping up with demand and isn't sure why.

"It's usually a water main break or a well down, but it's none of that that we can find," said Crystal Springs Mayor Sally Garland. "When you have a break, it's usually obvious, but we haven't found that."

News of the situation spread Wednesday when the city issued an alert stating water levels were running "dangerously low" and asked citizens to conserve water.

So far, it seems to be working, but the situation is still serious. Garland said the city is still looking for the problem. In the meantime, she is asking residents to conserve water by not taking long showers, not running dishwashers unnecessarily or any other use of water that can be avoided.

"It's building a little, but we're not in the clear," Garland said. "Everybody has water. We haven't lost pressure, and we want to keep it that way. Those kind of things will help us out."
