More Chaves County residents have received a COVID-19 vaccine, according to updated data on the New Mexico Department of Health’s online vaccine dashboard.

The data on Friday afternoon showed 10,681 residents, or 21.5% of residents age 16 and older, have received at least one dose of vaccine, and 5,220, or 10.5%, are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 27.7% of New Mexicans 16 or older have received at least one shot, and 15.9% are fully vaccinated.

The state has administered 745,260 doses of the 807,435 it has received.

In its daily case update Friday, the health department announced 268 new cases in 25 counties and two correctional facilities. Only two new cases were reported in Chaves County.

The number of deaths statewide related to COVID-19 was also low on Friday, with only six reported. None were from Chaves County. Two were in Sandoval County and the rest were in Bernalillo, Eddy, McKinley and Otero counties.

The total number of cases in New Mexico is 187,984 and the total number of deaths is 3,849.

The daily update notes that a death reported on March 3 in Chaves County of a man in his 60s who was a resident of Casa Maria Health Care Center had been previously reported on Nov. 10. The number of deaths in Chaves County has been corrected to 156.

As of Friday, 124 people were hospitalized in New Mexico for COVID-19.
