Goalie Riley Stromlund made 36 saves as Lake of the Woods closed out the regular season with a 3-1 Section 8A win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team at the Baudette Arena on Monday, March 15.
After Mac Imes opened the scoring with a power-play goal 6:40 into the game, the Panthers tied it at 1-1 on Jeron Pinoniemi’s goal at the 10:53 mark. Caden Opheim and Quincy Jantz assisted on that goal. LOW held a 16-13 edge in shots on goal in the opening period.
Despite outshooting LOW 12-5, the Panthers trailed 2-1 after the second period with Imes scoring at the 10:36 mark.
The Bears sealed the win on Anson Hack’s goal at the 10:35 mark of the third period. LOW held a 13-12 edge in shots in the final period.
Goalie Sawyer Torkelson made 31 saves for the Panthers, who fell to 1-8 against section teams and 5-12 overall. Park Rapids failed to score on five power-play chances and finished with a 37-34 edge in shots.
LOW, which went 1 for 7 on the power play, improved to 3-7 in section games and 3-9 overall.
