The fantasy football season is going to rely more and more on wide receivers if the passing dominated trend in the NFL continues. In PPR leagues especially, wide receivers are one of the most, if not the most, important pieces for building a champion.
Although the fantasy trade deadlines aren’t usually for a few weeks, here are some potential wide receivers that you should buy low on going into next season.
5. Tim Patrick
The Denver Broncos have struggled this season, with a record of 2-4, but if you look deeper into their losses, you will see that the Broncos talent is not reflected by their record. They have simply just played superior teams. The Broncos have four losses this year: Chiefs (5-1), Titans (5-1), Steelers (6-0), Bucs (5-2).
Let’s not forget that the Broncos have also only had Drew Lock for 3 weeks this season, and have otherwise been led by backup and third-string quarterbacks. They are poised for a winning streak. To do that, they’re going to have to air it out.
Tim Patrick has been the team’s best receiver with Courtland Sutton on the IR. Although Jerry Jeudy was supposed to be the team’s top receiver without Sutton, Tim Patrick has emerged as the popular option.
Patrick is third on the team in targets, but leads the team in receptions and in yards and is tied with TE Noah Fant for the most touchdowns (2).
With the Broncos schedule getting much easier as the season progresses, I expect an offensive explosion from this group. That explosion will be led by Tim Patrick.
Patrick is only owned in 21 percent of leagues. Pick him up if you can, buy low if he’s owned.
4. Jarvis Landry
Jarvis Landry has been rather disappointing thus far in 2020. Through 7 weeks, Landry has only eclipsed 80 yards one time, hasn’t recorded more than 5 receptions, and has not caught a touchdown.
Why buy low?
With Odell out for the season, Landry becomes the team’s number one option. Baker Mayfield and the Browns have been throwing the ball more with the absence of Nick Chubb and if that continues, Landry will be receiving his normal targets, plus a share of Odell’s.
I expect Landry to improve drastically as the season progresses. Considering his lack of production this year, Landry can probably be acquired for a low price in fantasy football.
3. Deebo Samuel
The 49ers are just starting to get rolling again, and that is largely in part of their offense coming to life. Brandon Aiyuk has been electric for this offense and George Kittle is as productive as ever. Everyone seems to always forget about Deebo Samuel, however.
Samuel is coming off of back to back 5+ receptions and 60-yard weeks, where he caught every ball that targeted him. That’s a good sign for the second-year star.
Samuel is also frequently featured in the run game for Kyle Shanahan, adding even more fantasy football value.
Samuel was hurt early on, and underperformed in weeks 4 and 5. The last two weeks showed that he is on his way to being the 49ers WR1 again. I would buy low on Deebo Samuel.
2. Cole Beasley
The definition of consistent, Cole Beasley has only gotten less than 10 fantasy points this year (in PPR) one time this season (he recorded 9). He has been an incredibly reliable option for Josh Allen thus far, and I expect that to continue.
Beasley has collected 19 targets over the last two weeks where he’s produced 15 catches and 36 fantasy points (PPR).
Beasley isn’t a highly regarded receiver in fantasy football, but his consistency makes him an incredibly important asset. He can fill in for wide receivers that you have on bye, or be used as a serviceable flex option.
I would buy low on Beasley if you can.
1. Curtis Samuel
The Carolina Panthers have definitely been the surprise team of 2020. Nobody would have predicted that a young Panthers team without Christian McCaffrey would be 3-5 and look like a potential wild card team. They have performed much better than expectations.
Curtis Samuel on the other hand, has underperformed. Robby Anderson has carved out a bigger role with the Panthers than expected and as a result, Samuel has been a non-factor. At least that was the case for the first few games.
Samuel has 10 points or more in three of the last four weeks, including an impressive two-touchdown performance on Thursday night football against the Falcons.
Samuel is beginning to get more comfortable with QB Teddy Bridgewater and is being used as a utility knife in this offense (similar to Deebo Samuel). He’ll be a bigger facet of this offense moving forward.
Curtis Samuel is only owned in 20% of leagues. I would pick him up if he’s on waivers, or buy low if he’s owned.
Now 8 weeks into the season, fantasy football teams are gearing up to make playoff pushes. Don’t sit idle and watch your opponent get better. Buy low on these receivers and improve your team.
