SUNDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Hot and muggy with a low chance of showers - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Metro Atlanta’s warm streak will continue on Sunday with cloudy skies and muggy weather, according to the latest forecast.

After a few scattered showers on Saturday evening, the chance of rain is expected to drop to 10% for the second half of the weekend, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said.

Sunday morning should start off about 70 degrees near Atlanta before warming up to a high of 86. It will be humid, however, so those looking to get outside are encouraged to bring along plenty of water.

Tropical Storm Cristobal is making its way toward the Gulf Coast, but it isn’t expected to impact the weather in metro Atlanta at all, according to the latest projections.

“Even if we’re not dealing with the rainfall here in North Georgia from Cristobal, we’re dealing with the clouds from it,” Walls said. “We can expect them to stick around through the overnight period and into tomorrow as well.”

With less cloud coverage in far northwest Georgia, Sunday’s temperatures could hit in the low 90s in Rome and Calhoun.

The chance of showers increases to 30% on Monday before increasing to 60% by midweek, Walls said.

As for traffic, drivers may want to avoid the downtown area altogether if possible as Atlanta’s protests against police brutality and racial injustice are expected to continue for a 10th straight day.

Atlanta drivers can also expect overnight delays on I-20 West at the Windsor Street exit as Georgia Department of Transportation crews work to repair a bridge there.

All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
