BUCKS COUNTY, PA — As the United States broke records for new cases of the coronavirus, Bucks County continued to see low numbers over the past few days.

The county averaged just 10 new cases per day from Saturday to Monday, according to health officials, along with five newly reported case that are actually weeks old. Of those 35 cases, only two were attributed to pure community spread, officials said.

The report shared the first new infection numbers after Bucks County moved to the least-restrictive green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf's coronavirus plan on Friday. Under green, bars and restaurants were allowed to serve patrons indoors and other businesses, like gyms, barber shops and salons, reopened for the first time.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, new coronavirus cases in the United States hit record highs over the past few days. States where restrictions were loosened earlier than in others, including Florida, were the site of some of the biggest spikes.

In Bucks, health officials continue to stress wearing masks and social distancing as they wait to see if moving to the green phase will have an impact on infection numbers. Dr. David Damsker, director of the Bucks County Department of Health, said those numbers won't be seen for another week or two.

"Our inspectors have found that most bars have followed our safe guidance thus far, and we're grateful for that," Damsker said. "We want everything to remain open going forward and we're off to a good start."

Of the 35 total cases added to the county's total in the past three days, 10 were spread by people who had traveled out of state, eight resulted from household contacts, seven are residents or workers at long-term care facilities, three were from workplace contacts, two were attributed to community spread, one was infected in a healthcare setting and four were unable to be interviewed immediately.

Bucks County now has had 5,395 people test positive for COVID-19 during the pandemic. A total of 507 deaths have been attributed to the virus, including 405 long-term care residents, while 3,604 people are confirmed to have recovered.

On Monday, 74 Bucks County patients remain hospitalized, with 10 of them in critical condition and on ventilators.

Statistics, charts and other coronavirus-related information for Bucks County can be found on the county's coronavirus data portal.
