WILLIAMSBURG — The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (CWF) has announced that it has joined an organization that will grant access to its outdoor living history museum for low-income families.
The program, Museums for All, was established so that families who receive food assistance are able to gain access to more than 800 museums across the United States. According to the program’s website, it was launched in 2014 by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and is currently administered by the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM). Museums for All reports that 1.9 million individuals have visited museums using this program.
CWF notes that by joining Museums for All, this continues the Foundation’s commitment to seek, include, and welcome all audiences.
“History belongs to all of us and should be accessible for all,” said President and CEO of Colonial Williamsburg Cliff Fleet. “Colonial Williamsburg is proud to participate in initiatives like Museums for All to ensure that everyone — regardless of race, religion, politics, or socioeconomic background — is able to see themselves in our nation’s history.”
Colonial Williamsburg will offer for those using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to gain entry for a minimal fee of $3 per person for up to four guests. The guest would just need to show their SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
