Three low-water bridges in Morgan County have been closed today, Monday, March 1, due to high water.

Morgan County Division of Highways (DOH) Supervisor Rodney Crowell said Monday morning that the bridges on Johnson Mill Road, Rockford Road, and on Kilgore Road at the Morgan County-Hampshire County line have been closed. The low water bridge on Powerhouse Road in Great Cacapon is also completely submerged.

A low water bridge on Powerhouse Road in Great Cacapon was invisible on Monday morning.

Crowell said when the water recedes, the bridges will be open “as soon as it’s safe.”

Highway crews have been cleaning out culverts throughout the county where water has overflowed onto the roadway.

Heavy rains on Sunday continued overnight and rain tapered off Monday morning.

At 11:30 a.m. the Cacapon River levels had begun to drop from a crest at nearly 11 feet, according to U.S. Geologic Survey river gage readings. Flood stage on the Cacapon is at 9 feet.

The Potomac River at Paw Paw was at roughly 23 feet at 11:15 a.m. and still rising, according to USGS river gage readings. Flood stage for the Potomac River at Paw Paw is at 25 feet.
