The upcoming pattern aloft is called an “Omega-Block”, with the jet-stream level winds carving out dips over the western and eastern U.S., with a ridge in between over the Plains. If you look closely at the forecast upper-level winds map below (the Euro model) for Sunday you can see the outline of the Greek letter Omega.
