Daily Distraction: Old-time radio shows go virtual - TwinCities.com-Pioneer Press

The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society took its stage shows at Park Square Theatre online when coronavirus shut down live theater.

After two sold-out online performances this spring, The Society has added new dates and new ticket prices, starting Monday, June 15.

Performed like a classic radio broadcast, each show includes original commercials, eerie music and live sound effects. The virtual shows will be a rotation of lost episodes, original works and literary adaptations. Monday’s show has two never-before-heard audio plays.

The scripted part of the radio shows are pre-recorded. In a Park Square news release, company member Eric Webster explained, “It is taking us approximately five times longer to produce shows this way than it would to do them live, but at the end of the day it is a quality issue. We want to give patrons the best product possible and with the limitations of making a show through Zoom, we can make it so much better with editing.”

And since the audience can be larger than the Boss Stage at Park Square, where the shows were originally scheduled to be staged, ticket prices have dropped to $15.

Tickets are on sale at parksquaretheatre.org. You’ll get and invitation to a Zoom meeting the morning of the show.

Members of The Mysterious Old Radio Listening Society include local theatrical favorites: Eric Webster (Shade’s Brigade), Shanan Custer (2 Sugars, Room for Cream), Joshua English Scrimshaw (Comedy Suitcase) and Tim Uren (Ghoulish Delights).
