So, you’re in the market for a new phone but you don’t want to pay a fortune? Right now, you can snag last year’s flagship Pixel, the Pixel 7 Pro, at a remarkably low price. The lowest ever, in fact.
Why would you choose this over the more accomplished Pixel 8 Pro, you might ask. Well, price would be front-and-center. When it launched in the fall of 2022, it cost $899. Right now, it’s $509.99, a savings of 43% or $389.01.
This price is currently at Amazon, here, and is for the obsidian colorway (it’s black, basically). If you prefer hazel, that’s a touch more, $519.66, and the snow option is more still, $524.60. All three are exceptional prices for this phone. As always with Amazon, prices can go up or down at a moment’s notice. It’s worth noting that store.google.com has the Pixel 7 Pro for sale as well. But it’s at full price, $899.
If you’re reading this in the U.K., Amazon has offers over here, too, but they’re not as spectacular. The obsidian option comes in at £629, a £220 or 26% drop from the original £849 price. That’s a welcome discount, but not a patch on the U.S. offer. Mind you, it’s better than the price drop you can find at Google’s own store, where it’s on sale for £699. That offer does include a three-month trial of YouTube Premium and a three-month trial of Google One 100GB.
The other reasons you might like the Pixel 7 Pro over the later, more expensive models include the fact that the handsome design of the Pixel line is mostly unchanged, so you’re not missing out on anything in terms of style.
While the Pixel 8 Pro has a different display, and most notably an improved processor called the Tensor G3, designed to make the most of new AI features, there’s still plenty to like in the Pixel 7 Pro.
The Pixel 7 Pro’s Tensor G2 is fast and efficient, ensuring a speedy performance and excellent battery life. I used the Pixel 7 Pro for a year and it was fast and long-lasting at the end of the year, just as it was at the beginning.
The 6.7-inch OLED screen is excellent, with 512 pixels per inch resolution and the phone weighs 7.48 ounces, so not the lightest out there, but a good weight for the size.
It also has three great rear cameras, a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 48-megapixel telephoto and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide. Those megapixel counts remain the same on the Pixel 8 Pro, except the ultra-wide is beefed up to 48 megapixels. But the camera on the Pixel 7 Pro is one of the best I’ve ever tested, so while the latest model is better, this one is no slouch.
If you want an affordable way to buy one of the best phones in recent years, the Pixel 7 Pro, at this price, is a great option.
