Nike’s connection with the Korean peninsula dates back decades, most recently appearing in the form of experimental retail concepts such as Nike Rise and the Hongdae neighborhood’s Nike Style. In celebration of Hangul Day in early October, the Beaverton brand is striking up a weather-resistant homage to the 15th-century creation of the Korean alphabet.
First introduced in late August via the Air Max 1, the aforementioned Tinker Hatfield design’s dominant “Light Orewood Brown” treatment now takes hold of the Air Force 1’s low-top trim. Cured in supple tumbled leather, the collection’s synonymous tan tint consumes the upper overlays and profile swooshes while formulating a clad composition around the ballistic mesh tongue. Gore-Tex water-resistant tooling appears within the crisp white mesh base layer while stamping the lateral heel and tongue tab with the materials’ namesake. Underfoot, a cream-composed midsole and classic gum tread combine for a nostalgic undertone as embossed Hangul Day insignias lay claim to the heel tab and insoles.
