Forever pieces are Tiffany & Co.’s forte. We're talking engagement rings, wedding bands, Valentine's necklaces, anniversary wristwatches, all handsomely wrapped up in the East Coast label’s trademark Tiffany blue packaging.

So when it came to collaborating with West Coast sportswear giant Nike, the Air Force 1 Low – the most timeless silhouette born from the Swoosh – was destined to be the jewellery and luxury label’s first choice.

On Monday 30 January, both parties officially announced their alliance through the ‘A Legendary Pair’ campaign published on the brands' respective Instagram pages – not to mention the personal profile of Tiffany & Co. exec Alexandre Arnault – and printed on a double-page spread in the New York Times.

One day on, Tiffany & Co. returned to Instagram to provide an up-close look at the already-coveted kicks, crafted from premium suede and leather, and named after the marque’s founding year: 1837.

Despite ‘triple white’ being the archetypal AF1 colourway, Tiffany & Co. have elected for a blacked-out look accented by a Tiffany blue swoosh that punctuates the lateral and medial sidewalls.

The design supposedly pays homage to the opening scene of Blake Edwards’ Breakfast at Tiffany’s in which Holly Golightly (famously portrayed by Audrey Hepburn) hops out of a cab outside Tiffany and Co.'s Fifth Avenue flagship in a simple, well-fitted black frock paired with glitzy accessories.

As with most of Nike’s special-edition projects, the devil is in the detail with the 1837. Stitched atop the tongue is a Tiffany wordmark tongue label in an old-school glamour typeface; threaded into a leather strip attached to the heel is an engraved silver Tiffany charm. You'll also find a pebbled leather deubré (shoe tag) affixed to the black rope laces.

Then there’s the box: Tiffany blue, of course, crested with the Nike logo. Inside, a white Tiffany wordmark which echoes the tongue label is printed on the flip side of the lid that's resplendent in a brilliant red, like the rest of the interior. Tiffany & Co. print ad-adorned tissue and three alternative laces (white, yellow and Tiffany blue) round off the unboxing experience.

Alongside the 1837 trainer, Tiffany & Co. x Nike is dropping a range of dual-logo sterling silver accessories that fall within the brands’ intersection. Namely, a shoe horn, a shoe brush, a deubré and a whistle chain – each of which is expected to be swiftly snatched up by sneakerheads and high-style mavens.
