When Garth Brooks revealed he would be opening his own bar and restaurant on Lower Broadway in Nashville, it was anyone's guess what the name of it would be. That doesn't mean folks didn't speculate — many fans hoped it'd inspired by one of his songs, especially after the star said it will be a traditional honky-tonk.
It would seem he's landed on Friends in Low Places as the name of his bar, in honor of one of his biggest hits, 1990's "Friends in Low Places." The song was originally recorded by David Wayne Chamberlain the year prior, but didn't see traction until Brooks put his spin on it.
"Have any of my Friends in Low Places hanging out on Broadway seen this yet?!" Brooks asks on social media, teasing the masses. Attached to his post is a timelapse video of construction crews hanging letters that spell Friends in Low Places in the windows of his soon-to-be establishment.
Excited fans are already trying to guess what specialty cocktails and food items will be on the menu. Some were clever enough to come up with drinks called "Social Graces" and "Unanswered Prayers," while one person suggested there be a dish called "Thunder Rolls." Perhaps those suggestions should go to Brooks' wife, Trisha Yearwood, should she have a say in what's coming out of the kitchen.
When it opens, the assumed Friends in Low Places bar will be a 40,000+ square foot venue that will take over the old Downtown Sporting Club in Nashville. The three-story entertainment block will feature a merchandise store, which is expected to open ahead of Brooks' tour stops at Nissan Stadium April 15-16. The "Callin' Baton Rouge" singer expects the full space to be open for business in the next two to three years.
Meanwhile, Brooks is on his massive Stadium Tour, and he recently announced a stop at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 18. The tour will continue until September, when he heads overseas for several shows in Dublin, Ireland.
