YPSILANTI, Mich. – Fifth-year senior Natalie Vaughn-Low scored in the seventh and 85th minutes to lead the Illinois State women's soccer program in its season-opening 4-0 victory over Eastern Michigan on Thursday afternoon at Scicluna Field.
Fifth-year senior Sarah LaFayette and senior Riley O'Brien scored just 1:49 apart to open the second half for the Redbirds (1-0 overall) to extend the Redbird advantage to 3-0 before Vaughn-Low iced the game in the 85th minute. Both LaFayette and O'Brien added an assist while senior Logan Ziegler and sophomore Peyton Dearing also recorded an assist apiece.
Eastern Michigan (0-1 overall) managed just a pair of shots on-goal en route to a clean sheet for redshirt junior Priya Gillan and the ISU defensive unit.
The Redbirds controlled much of play, outshooting the Eagles, 22-7. ISU also generated seven corners while EMU had two.
Illinois State is scheduled to face Illinois in its home opener on August 22 at 6:00 p.m. at Adelaide Street Field.
