Low Cut Connie, a rock band, was one of the three acts scheduled to take the Grandstand on Saturday. The band told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that they will not be performing.
Monday, frontman Adam Weiner released a statement, which said, in part, "Now that I understand that there will be no mask or vaccine mandate in place for the event, I don't feel comfortable moving forward with this show. I know that everyone has to make difficult decisions during this public health crisis, and I want to thank the Minnesota State Fair and our pals at the Current for understanding and supporting ours."
Last week it was announced about 150 vendors were also choosing not to set up shop this year. The reasoning behind those decisions ranged from pandemic concerns to staffing shortages.
The fair's gates open Thursday morning and the State Fair is not requiring masking but would strongly encourage it indoors or outside when it's not possible to maintain social distancing. The fair is also not requiring proof of vaccination and officials said individual vendors can set their own mandates.
