Little to no water is coming out of faucets in households across Houston and Harris County, prompting officials to urge residents to conserve water.

Nearly all parts of Harris County are experiencing low water pressure or have no water at all as water utilities struggle to operate amid a statewide power crisis, county officials said.

"This will not improve until more power is restored," a county statement said.

Houston emergency management officials urged residents to conserve water as the city's water and wastewater systems experience low pressure. People should use water only for essential tasks. Do not run the dishwasher, washing machine or water outdoor plants or gardens.

Mayor Sylvester Turner said water pressure is "very low" across the city. Residents should not run water to keep pipes from bursting and turn off water if pipes break.

"Be conservative on water usage today. It is needed for hospitals and fires," Turner tweeted.

According to officials, boil water notices have been issued for the following locations: The City of Pearland, Harris County WCID – Fondren Road, Fort Bend County WCID #2 Stafford, City of Fulshear,  Harris County MUD #122, City of Katy, Greatwood - Sugar Land, and Quail Valley Utility Districts Thunderbird Utility District #1, Palmer Plantation MUD #1, Palmer Plantation MUD #2.
