“And so instead of moving around, we're looking around now.”
-Howard Hochhalter, Planetarium Manager
There are more eyes on the heavens here in the Tampa Bay area and around the world.
It’s another way the pandemic has changed how we live and what we do.
And it could not be happening at a more important time, according Howard Hochhalter, the manager of the planetarium at the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature.
As the NASA Perseverance rover searches for signs of life on Mars, it’s the beginning of a new era.
“We're living in that cusp of change where very dramatic things are going to happen. It's like watching the world change when the internet occurred or when the world changed when aircraft occurred or when television occurred,” Hochhalter said.
Hochhlater and his team have programming available for anyone interested in space, and he says that interest is growing as people search for more COVID-safe things to do with their free time.
On Saturday, there will be a daytime event for kids – socially distant and outside.
They also have a sky viewing opportunity Saturday evening.
Virginia Johnson has been talking to people from all walks of life in the Tampa Bay area about Life in The Time of Coronavirus. You can check them out here.
