Colorado Low Headed for the Plains, Ozarks, Midwest and Northeast - WeatherNation

singkrata.blogspot.com

We are tracking another shot of snow from the Plains today headed for the Great Lakes and Northeastern United States as we head into the work week. As we track a Colorado Low the ejects out of the southern Plains and heads into the Northeast this could add a quick shot of snow and even the possible of some icing into areas like Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.

Our first batch of snow continues to move into northern Missouri, Iowa and Illinois through tonight.

We could still see some icing in some of these locations, especially into the Ozarks overnight. By Monday morning, a Colorado low ejects into the southern Plains and we will track this as it moves up into the northeast.

On the northern side of the low, snow fills in by Monday afternoon from Missouri, Illinois and Indiana and into western Ohio.

Monday night, along the warm from into southern Indiana and northern Kentucky there may be a bit of a layer of warm air that may bring some icing but to the northern side of this system snow continues across eastern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, southern Michigan and now even into Pennsylvania and New York.

Overnight, this low continues to push into central Ohio. Snow increase for the Great Lakes region and some of the farthest bands move into western Massachussetts.

Tuesday morning, the low is over Erie, PA. Some areas including Pittsburg may see a bit of a wintry mix but from northern Maryland through New England we can expect snow.

Tuesday afternoon, the low starts to move into Canada and snow should come to a close by Tuesday night.

First, we could see some issue spots of the roads of the southern Plains as icing has already occurred in northeast Oklahoma and into the Plains of Kansas and Ozarks of Missouri. We are likely to see additional icing spots as this Colorado low moves in by Monday. Minor accumulations up to about 1/10th of an inch will be possible in these spots.

Snow totals in the Plains are expected to be light, with many areas picking up between 1 and 4 inches of accumulation. But as this low tracks into the northeast we could see some accumulations increase after some of the outer bands move over the Great Lakes as they pick up some more moisture.

While snow totals will not be overly heavy, gusty winds—between 20 and 40 miles per hour—may lead to low visibilities as well as blowing and drifting snow in open areas.  Use caution while traveling in these areas. Meanwhile temperatures will only be in the 10’s and coupled with the wind, wind chill values will be below zero degrees!

We already have ongoing winter weather advisories across the plains of Nebraska that should be expiring this Sunday evening but as we track this Colorado low, additional winter weather advisories have been issued for Oklahoma, Kansas, and the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri. We are most likely to see issues due to ice, but also some very light snow could cause slick spots on the road.

A frigid forecast is expected through the rest of the weekend and into next week for much of the Midwest.  Be sure to bundle up and tune into WeatherNation for the very latest forecast information.
