The air is cooler now. Apples are ready and falling off the tree in the backyard. You and Kathy are back home in Florida.
Traveling the country with your own house on wheels seems the best way to go in these times. You were able to visit the places rich in history of this country.
On these September days, it feels as though all is right with the world. Except for the plague of coronavirus hanging over us.
Our schools are running again – with lots of caution. The university with the new President Andrew Armacost is back in session. When I drive out to the campus I see students on the move. About half of them wear masks. The sororities and fraternities are rushing online!
There will be no UND football games this fall. The fun of tailgating is on hold. Gone too in these times is the joy of watching the UND marching band. I have no idea where the Hawk is hiding. I hope the creature is safe from the plague.
This time of year I would like to be watching him cavort around out at the UND volleyball games. But that, too, is gone for the season.
All is not lost. There are high school games. The bounty of the gardens has been showing up around Grand Forks and at the Saturday morning markets downtown.
Ronald the rabbit
This is the time of year when my heart is full of wonder. I wonder why Ronald the Rabbit, who hangs out in my back yard, doesn’t go south for the winter. I would give him a couple of shrubs to chew on along the way.
And he could stop off at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
Good and bad
Dodging the dread disease is not easy anywhere. I know people all around you in Florida have been heavily hit.
Bad and good times come and go. I guess we just have to go with the flow these days. Sometimes I like to contemplate the statue of the one soldier at the intersection of Belmont Road and South Sixth Street here in Grand Forks. It was placed there to remember those who served in Union armies during the Civil War.
So much has happened since then. But nothing quite like this! Time marches on. I guess we need to take it just one day at a time.
Best wishes from Grand Forks, where time marches on with the new mayor, Brandon Bochenski, and the new UND president , Andrew Armacost, leading the way.
Best regards from your friend Marilyn, trying to figure out how to start the furnace.
