Re: “What will we do when the Floyd protests die down?” (Opinion section, Mercurynews.com, June 7):
I’m glad Jeff Rosen asked. The Santa Clara County District Attorney could start with inviting some South Bay representatives of the Black Lives Matter movement to review the External Oversight, Reporting, and Organizational Accountability report of last year.
The situation is this: We have a minimal police accountability structure in the city of San Jose and none in Santa Clara County — maybe you could start there. But if Rosen really wants allies in bringing justice to our county, he has to admit that structural change, not photo ops, must happen and the police should be the police, not campus cops, border cops, sex trade cops or homelessness cops.
There are hundreds of folks who are skilled in social work and at addiction centers, homeless shelters and even churches who could make good things happen if Rosen chose to work with them.Walter Hudson
