NEW YORK, NEW YORK — New York's new coronavirus cases fell to the level they were the day a sweeping "stay-at-home" order took effect, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday.

There were 521 new hospitalizations reported Saturday — the lowest level since March 20 when Cuomo put the state on "PAUSE."

"That takes us right back to where we started this hellish journey," he said.

Hospitalizations steadily increased in the days and weeks since Cuomo effectively shut down the state. But the measures appear to have worked — they've dropped in recent weeks.

Deaths from coronavirus on Saturday also reached a low level not seen in nearly two months, Cuomo said. There were 207 deaths, roughly the same as March 27, he said.
