One of the most common requests we receive in our inboxes is to spotlight low-sodium recipes. If you’re on a low-sodium diet or even just looking to cut back on your salt intake a little, cooking may seem daunting. Salt is a kitchen essential that enhances the taste of a dish, so I can understand the assumption that “low-sodium” and “flavorless” are synonymous.

Luckily, that’s not at always the case. There are plenty of ways to minimize how much salt you use in your cooking without compromising a delicious meal. Using ingredients such as aromatics, wine and citrus thoughtfully and leaning on other tastes, such as sweet, sour and umami are great ways to ensure that your food is vibrant and exciting.

The satisfying mains below all contain less than 500 milligrams of sodium per serving, with half containing less that 350 mg.
