Michiganders should not worry if they see helicopters flying near power lines for the next month.

Michigan-based electricity transmission company ITC Michigan will be inspecting its high-voltage transmission structures and lines from May 17 to June 17, according to a news release from the company. That means the helicopters will be flying low, near the lines.

The low-flying helicopters are no cause for alarm, the release said. Crews fly low so they can see the equipment to inspect it.

Crews are watching for damaged or worn equipment and any vegetation that creates a hazard. They’ll inspect steel towers, wood poles, wires, insulators and more during these flights, the release said.

The flights are weather dependent.

There are 8,700 miles of lines for crews to inspect in the Lower Peninsula, the release said.

The helicopters will be flying in different parts of the state during the following dates:

May 17 - 19: Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties

May 20 - 25: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lenawee, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties

May 28 - June 4: Clinton, Genesee, Gratiot, Huron, Ingham, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Midland, Oakland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee, St. Clair and Tuscola counties
