Covid in NY: Hospitalizations reach another new low since fall - syracuse.com

Albany, N.Y. — Covid-19 hospitalizations in New York fell again Thursday and reached another new low point since the fall.

Hospitalizations dropped 85 to 1,767, their lowest since Nov. 12, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office. A total of 415 people were in intensive care units with the coronavirus, down 18, and 247 were intubated, down 11.

Hospitalizations are down 497 over the last week.

The state confirmed 2,068 new Covid cases Thursday and reported another 203,852 test results. The statewide percentage of people testing positive for the virus was 1.01%.

Hospitalizations are new cases are both at their lowest levels in months and down sharply from their most recent high points in January.

“As we near the light at the end of the Covid tunnel, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our fight against the virus and continue to adhere to safety measures in place,” Cuomo said in a press release. “New York was hit harder than any other state in the nation, but thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers, we are seeing a steady decline in our numbers. If you haven’t already, get vaccinated so we can continue to make progress toward a healthier, stronger New York for all.”

Over 49% of New Yorkers have received at least one dose of a Covid vaccine and over 40% have had all required doses.

Another 25 people in New York died Thursday due to Covid, which brings the statewide death toll to 42,417. New deaths have also been falling recently since climbing over 200 at one point in January.

In Central New York, the seven-day average of the percentage of people testing positive for the virus Thursday was 1.26%, up from 1.17% the previous day. The statewide seven-day average was 1.22%, down from 1.25% the day before.
