Wild Vs. Blues Recap: Nine Times? Nine Times. - St. Louis Game Time

Blues Highlights and One Wild Goal That Got in The Way:

First Period -

1:32 into tonight’s game, the Blues scored their first goal of the night. Robert Thomas’ pass actually bounced off of a Wild player and went to Zach Sanford. Sanford finished off the play and started Kappo Kahkonen’s no good very bad night.

It’s not often that I get to show the goalies some love, but I want to point out this save. Vintage Binnington is back?

Moments later, the Blues take a two goal lead. Vladimir Tarasenko kept hold of the puck for a few moments. The Wild player went with Tarasenko. That left Jaden Schwartz wide open. Schwartz skated right in. He fired a quick shot and scored.

Thirty four-ish seconds later, the Wild scored their one and only goal of the night. Kyle Clifford turned the puck over to Carson Soucy. Soucy shot the puck on net and Binnington was there to make the initial save. However, Zach Parise was there to clean up the rebound and cut the lead to 2-1.

Jaden Schwartz scored goal number two in the period. (Yes, this is still the first. Insane right?) On this goal, Brayden Schenn found Schwartz wide open again. This goal was from more of the middle of the ice than the first. But the result was the same. A goal. Have the floodgates opened for 17 again?

But wait...THERE’S MORE. Justin Faulk skated right by the Wild player that could have turned this play into an icing call. Not so much as Faulk collected the puck behind the net. He made a pass out to the front of the net. Sammy Blais was the lucky recipient of said pass. Blais fired the puck and scored. So for those scoring at home...that was FOUR first period goals.

Second Period -

A nice 69 seconds into the period, Ryan O’Reilly adds another goal to the big lead. Sammy Blais brought the puck into the o-zone. Blais slid the puck over to O’Reilly. O’Reilly had enough time to wind up and fire a huge slap shot that beat Kahkonen. Yes, he was still in the game at this point.

The Wild got a power play. Ok, maybe now they’ll score and cut into the Blues lead right? That’s a negative ghostrider. In fact the Blues were the ones to score on the Wild power play. That’s right, things were going so well for the Blues tonight that they got a shortie. Ryan O’Reilly pulled a Schwartz and scored his second goal in a period. It was a great individual effort to steal the puck and score.

The Blues were about to go on a power play, but they didn’t need it. Justin Faulk kicked the extra point to get the score to 7-1. Robert Thomas made another great pass after getting tripped. He stayed with the puck and found Faulk skating toward the net. Faulk took the pass, skated a little more, shot and scored.

The Blues up 7-1 after 2. I just wanted to see that in writing.

Third Period -

OH BUT WAIT THERE’S EVEN MORE.

Jake Walman netted his second goal in as many...Just kidding. Ryan O’Reilly gets the credit for the goal as he tipped it on net and in. That’s a hat trick for the captain and a 7 goal lead for the Blues.

Just in case the Wild were thinking about making a dramatic eight goal comeback, the Blues added another goal. This goal was on the power play. Torey Krug fired a shot from the point. The puck deflected off of Ivan Barbashev’s stick and in. Nine. To. One. Wow.

The Blues only stopped scoring because the game ended. The Blues put together two home wins in a row. Which if I do my math right...carry the one...that’s the first time they’ve done that this year. But I suck at math so...The two teams will be right back at it tomorrow night.

Final shot totals...38-25 in favor of the Blues. The Blues were 1 for 2 on their power play tonight. The Blues also killed off both of the Wild power plays. Robert Thomas left the game late.
