Rutgers women’s basketball added another key piece to next season’s roster on Tuesday night, as Ball State transfer Oshlynn Brown announced her commitment on Twitter.
The 6’1” senior forward is the all-time leading rebounder for Ball State and one of just two players in program history to post over 1,000 career points and rebounds.
The two-time First Team All-MAC selection led the Cardinals this past season with 18.9 points, 12.9 points, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal in 34.0 minutes per game. She shot 52.7% from the floor and 63.6% from the charity stripe.
Brown is utilizing the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to COVID-19.
This is a great addition by head coach C. Vivian Stringer and the staff. Rutgers needed to add another proven frontcourt player to pair with returning starter Tyia Singleton. The experience of Brown and her ability to score and rebound in the post was an area the Scarlet Knights needed to fill. There is talent on the roster already in the frontcourt with freshmen Sakima Walker, Aicha Ndour and Chyna Cornwell. However, having a veteran like Brown to help aid with their development is important.
Following the departures of the top five scorers from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, including guards Diamond Johnson and Zippy Broughton, Rutgers has now added three players to the roster in the past week. They include Arkansas transfer Jailyn Mason, who committed last week, and Awa Sidibe, who officially signed with the program this past Monday.
Head coach C. Vivian Stringer, who signed a five year extension last week, will also add 4-star point guard Kierra Sanderlin to the roster next season. She committed late last year and could take the reigns of the offense sooner rather than later. That seems to leave one available scholarship for next season, but it’s possible Rutgers will carry it over to the next recruiting cycle.’
