The state’s coronavirus positive test rate hit a new low of 0.8% as public health officials reported another 416 coronavirus cases and 15 more deaths on Saturday.
The seven-day average positive test rate ticked down to 0.8% from 0.9% the two days prior, continuing a downward trend from August.
The 15 new deaths raise the state’s confirmed COVID-19 toll to 8,907, according to the state Department of Public Health. Another death from a probable case was reported Saturday, for a combined confirmed and probable death toll of 9,116.
The three-day average number of deaths stood at 14, down from 161 at the start of May.
There are now 120,454 confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease in Massachusetts, an increase of 416 from Friday. Another 22 probable cases were reported Saturday, for a total of 122,196 confirmed and probable cases.
State health officials reported that 20,789 more people were tested for the virus, bringing the total number of individuals tested to 1.8 million. More than 2.6 million tests have been administered overall statewide.
The three-day average number of hospitalizations was 323, continuing a slight uptick from a low of 302 on Aug. 29. The number of hospitals using surge capacity dropped to 1.
There are currently 325 people hospitalized with COVID-19, with 48 patients in intensive care units and 25 people intubated — all down from the day prior.
Long-term care facilities reported another nine deaths Saturday, for a total of 5,847. There are 381 facilities that have reported at least one COVID-19 case, and 24,653 workers and residents have fallen ill.
There are now more than 26 million coronavirus cases worldwide, with more than 6 million within the United States. The global death toll now stands above 870,000, including 188,000 Americans. More than 17 million people have recovered worldwide, including 2.2 million people in the U.S., according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
