Re “Trump Pressured Envoy: Get Me the British Open” (front page, July 22):
The report of another ethical transgression by President Trump should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with a business career marked by a history of dubious dealings and outright fraud, reflected in his now defunct Trump University.
From the first days of his administration, when the president refused to sever his ties to his personal business interests, through his fierce battle to shield his tax returns from public scrutiny, it was clear that he viewed himself as entitled to operate outside any traditional ethical constraints.
To someone who believes it’s appropriate to host a G7 conference at a resort that will profit him personally, or enriches his own businesses when the Secret Service rents rooms and golf carts during one of his frequent visits to his properties, it seems a small step to enlist the aid of a foreign government in lining his pockets.
Mr. Trump promised to drain the Washington swamp. Instead, he’s turned it into a cesspool.

Our Kitten Keeps Up With the News
To the Editor:
About six months ago we inherited a young kitten that was feral and running about an apartment complex parking lot. We named her Oreo.
We went into voluntary lockdown mid-March and have been occupying our continuous spare time teaching this cat the rules and regulations of civilized living. We think we have crossed the barrier and she now enjoys reading our New York Times that we get every morning.
