ALBANY — New York's hospitalizations for coronavirus infections continued to stay at lower levels overnight Saturday.

Total hospitalizations dropped from Friday, from 743 to 722 - a level that hasn't been seen since just after the pandemic shutdown was instituted, March 18.

However, deaths are up slightly to 13 statewide. The number had dropped down to five deaths statewide June 28. The state tally shows that one person died from Rensselaer County.

"During these confining and frustrating times, I know it's tempting to be tired of the many rules and guidelines the state has issued, but I reiterate that this pandemic is far from over, and the incredible compliance and fortitude of New Yorkers are key parts of our ability to fight COVID-19," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement Sunday morning.

The Capital Region's percent positive rate remained low Saturday, at .08%. Officials were concerned a week ago as the Capital Region then had the highest percent of tests coming back positive at 2.1%.

Now, the Mohawk Valley had the highest return on tests coming back positive at 1.5% Saturday. The overall percent positive rate statewide remained the same Saturday as it did Friday, at 1.08%
