Former President Barack Obama will be center stage Saturday as he delivers a commencement speech to the nation’s Class of 2020 high school seniors in a televised prime-time special.
“Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020” will take place Saturday, May 16 at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. ET) in place of traditional ceremonies canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event is available on fuboTV as well as Hulu and will be televised by ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC, along with more than 20 other broadcast and digital streaming partners.
Earlier on Saturday, Obama made a commencement address for historically black colleges and universities in which many believed he was critical of President Donald Trump for his handling of the pandemic.
“This pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so many of the folks in charge know what they’re doing. A lot of them aren’t even pretending to be in charge,” Obama said, per CNN, during a virtual commencement address for historically black colleges and universities.
“If the world is going to get better, it’s going to be up to you."
Due to the coronavirus, The Entertainment Industry Foundation, The LeBron James Family Foundation, XQ Institute and others are coming together to pay tribute to millions of high school seniors, families and teachers with “Graduate Together: America Honors the Class of 2020.”
In addition to Obama’s address, LeBron James, Bad Bunny, Charli D’Amelio, Dixie D’Amelio, Chika, YBN Cordae, Loren Gray, H.E.R., the Jonas Brothers, Brandan Bmike Odums, Ben Platt, Henry Platt, Jonah Platt, Megan Rapinoe, Yara Shahidi, Lena Waithe, Pharrell Williams, and Malala Yousafzai will all take part.
“I’ve always loved joining commencements - the culmination of hard work and sacrifice,” Obama posted on Instagram earlier this month. “Even if we can’t get together in person this year, Michelle and I are excited to celebrate the nationwide Class of 2020 and recognize this milestone with you and your loved ones.”
