Editor:
On Sunday, Nov. 7, U.S. clocks will return to standard time for, hopefully, the final time. Next March, with concurrence by Congress and the lower 48 states, clocks should advance to daylight saving time and stay there forever.
I’d much rather see the practice of spring forward and fall back remain, but with the dates changed to the last Sunday in March and the Sunday falling on Columbus Day weekend, respectively.
But, with a seemingly vocal plurality of Americans not wanting to change clocks at all, I’ll settle for year-round daylight saving time.
That being said, in order to avoid children living in the western reaches of a time zone from having to walk to school in total darkness in December, January and early February, time zone boundaries need to be shifted east.
While accomplishing this would involve state legislatures, ideally, some of the nation’s larger cities changing time zones would include Louisville, Ky., to the central time zone; Amarillo, Texas, to the mountain; and Boise, Idaho, to the Pacific.
