PORTLAND, Ore. – Since the 2018 season, Jakob Pruitt has been on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. He adds the honor again this season for the fourth time as the Western Oregon University football team placed ten on the GNAC All-Academic Team, Presented by Barnes & Noble College on Wednesday.
Joining Pruitt on the list includes three-time recipients Ryan Worthley, Isaiah Abraham and Mack Little. Widny Joseph, Fernando Salazar, Jarren Ford, Austin Goldstein and Cooger Smith are all on the list for a second time. Logan Reese earns the honor this year for the first time.
Pruitt is not only on the academic team for a fourth straight year, but holds the highest GPA of the group at 3.85 while majoring in criminal justice. The versatile senior lineman from Beaverton, Ore., has been a mainstay on the line over each of the past few seasons. Pruitt has started all eight games this season seeing time at tackle and center. During the 2019 season, he started every game at center. This year, Pruitt has helped lead the offense to 2,844 total yards and 22 touchdowns. The Wolves have rushed for 1,279 yards and 13 touchdowns, while passing for 1,565 yards and nine touchdowns. Pruitt was named to the GNAC Second Team following the 2019 season.
Worthley earns the honor for a third straight year holding a 3.74 GPA while majoring in economics. The junior quarterback from Tigard, Ore., moved into the starting quarterback role this season and has started all eight games for the Wolves. Worthley has completed 146-232 for 1,470 yards and eight touchdowns. He threw for a season-high 379 yards in the 41-38 home win over West Texas A&M and has three games with at least 200 yards against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Colorado School of Mines and Portland State. Worthley tossed a season-high three touchdown passes against Simon Fraser and added two touchdown games versus West Texas A&M and Central Washington.
Abraham earns the honor for a third straight year holding a 3.50 GPA while majoring in business. The junior linebacker from Independence, Ore., played in three games this season before missing time due to injury. Abraham played in the first three games of the season, posting three tackles against Colorado School of Mines and a tackle against Texas A&M-Kingsville. He tallied tackles for loss in both games as well. Abraham also played against Division I Portland State.
Little earns the honor for a third straight year holding a 3.30 GPA while majoring in business. The junior defensive end from Culver, Ore., has played in seven games this season. Little has 18 tackles, 10 solo, along with two tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and four quarterback hurries. He tallied a season-high four tackles on three different occasions against Colorado School of Mines, Central Washington (twice). Little tallied a sack against Colorado School of Mines and forced a fumble against Central Washington.
Joseph earns the honor for a second straight year holding a 3.83 GPA while majoring in organizational leadership. The senior defensive back from Novato, Calif., has seen time in three games this season. Joseph posted three tackles (one solo) in the season opener at Colorado School of Mines. He also added a pass breakup versus the Orediggers. Joseph also played against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Portland State.
Salazar earns the honor for a second straight year holding a 3.45 GPA while majoring in business. The sophomore offensive lineman from Wilsonville, Ore., has played in seven games this season along the offensive line. Salazar has started at center throughout the season and also spent time at tackle. This year, Salazar has helped lead the offense to 2,844 total yards and 22 touchdowns. The Wolves have rushed for 1,279 yards and 13 touchdowns, while passing for 1,565 yards and nine touchdowns.
Ford earns the honor for a second straight year holding a 3.40 GPA while majoring in business. The sophomore wide receiver from San Dimas, Calif., has played in all eight games this season coming away with 27 catches for 228 yards and a touchdown. He has a long reception of 22 yards. Ford has a catch in every game this season, hauling in a season-high seven at Division I Portland State where he also had a season-high 61 receiving yards. He added a touchdown catch against Central Washington.
Goldstein earns the honor for a second straight year holding a 3.35 GPA while majoring in psychology. The sophomore tight end from Sherwood, Ore., has played in seven games this season tallying three catches for 17 yards and a touchdown. Goldstein has helped block for an offense that has 2,844 total yards and 22 touchdowns. The Wolves have rushed for 1,279 yards and 13 touchdowns, while passing for 1,565 yards and nine touchdowns. Goldstein tallied a reception against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Simon Fraser (twice) and picked up a touchdown this past week against SFU.
Smith earns the honor for a second straight year holding a 3.27 GPA while majoring in criminal justice. The junior linebacker from Redmond, Ore., has played in five games this season coming away with 13 tackles, five solo, along with a half-tackle for loss. Smith collected a season-high six tackles in the win over West Texas A&M and also added four tackles against Colorado School of Mines.
Reese earns the honor for the first time in his career holding a 3.23 GPA while majoring in business. The sophomore wide receiver has played in five games this season coming away catches against both Colorado School of Mines and Simon Fraser.
WOU hits the road this week traveling to Nebraska to face Chadron State this Saturday with kickoff set for 11 a.m. (Pacific).
