INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Fighting Illini swimmers and divers sit in second place with 880 points after day two of competition, falling short of only Ball State University with 898 points. Day two was highlighted by 23 lifetime bests, 9 college bests, and Abby Cabush breaking her own school record in the 200 freestyle for the second time. The Fighting Illini sent 14 swimmers to finals, with three of them ending up on the podium.

"The team rocked it today on the boards and in the pool," said head coach Sue Novitsky, "The whole team is contributing and keeping the momentum going.  We are looking forward to keeping it going tomorrow."

Abby Cabush broke her school record in the 200 freestyle for the second time with a time of 1:47.71. Cabush first broke the record on February 6th of 2021 (1:47.90), and then a few weeks later on February 25th at the Big Ten Championships with a time of 1:47.80. Alongside the school record, Cabush placed first in the event and  set the meet record, which was held by Michelle Tipton of Evansville since 11/22/2014, and her time was 1:48.78.

Other than Cabush, two other swimmers landed themselves on the podium for the Friday night finals. Cara Bognar placed third in the 400 IM with a lifetime-best time of 4:18.37 and Kaleigh Haworth placed third in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.13, which was also a lifetime best.

The Fighting Illini 200 Medley relay team also placed in their event, with Salafatinos, Kale, Cabush, and Yetter placing second with a time of 1:41.59. This team's time also sets the 7th fastest 200 Medley Relay in Illini history.
