It’s gearing up to be a banner year for the Adidas Forum Low, a basketball shoe first introduced in the early ‘80s and relaunched in earnest under the German sportswear giant’s Originals line in 2020. Since then, the Three Stripes dropped a slew of limited-edition takes designed to drum up interest in the style, including a Bad Bunny collaboration that sold out in minutes and solidified the sneaker’s status as one of the hottest on the market. (Earlier this month, A$AP Rocky teased what sure looks like a Prada-branded spin on the shoe, hinting that the silhouette might be the latest to get reworked via the duo’s ongoing partnership.)
Like the red-hot Nike Dunk, the Forum was initially designed as a basketball shoe before being embraced by skaters, who appreciated the style’s durable build, and casual sneaker enthusiasts on and off the hardwood. Which means there are few silhouettes better suited to capitalize on the current demand for retro-leaning basketball kicks, and if Adidas’ recent push is any indication it intends to make the most of the opportunity.
Mercifully, the Adidas Forum Low still remains relatively under the radar for a shoe that seems strategically engineered to be on all the right feet this year, but don’t count on that lasting long. If you dig the look—or find yourself in need of a supremely versatile sneaker that rivals the Air Force 1 in terms of sheer wearability—now’s the time to get in on the action, before some impudent young whippersnapper in double-knee pants and 550s snags the last pair in your size. (Or, uh, inadvertently helps them go viral on TikTok.) Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
